This innovative exhibition focuses on the esthetic, ecological and essential presence of birds. Featuring artworks by thirty artists from around the world, Conference of the Birds explores our collective fascination with birdlife and their habitats of water, earth and sky. With conceptual installations, photography and video art on display, this timely project serves as a metaphor for our capacity to embrace our role as stewards of the earth.
The title Conference of the Birds is taken from a Sufi text of the same name written in 1177. It is a parable about striving toward enlightenment. In the text, Birds mimic the pain and beauty of the human journey and the art featured in Conference of the Birds embodies this complexity.
