Group Exhibition: Under the Influence: The Comics, Lehman College Art Gallery, 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, Bronx, through May 12.
A group exhibition of work by 23 artists explores the influence of “comics” imagery on contemporary art in various media. Under the Influence includes a piece by Red Grooms inspired by an incident between Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a groundhog named Chuck along with paintings of fantastic creatures that have survived a great cataclysm from D. Dominick Lombardi’s Post Apocalytic Tattoo Series and portraits of New Yorkers sketched on subway maps by Felipe Galindo.

Aperture Foundation and the Photography Program at the School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons New School for Design present a free lecture with Iranian-born and New York-based artist Shirin Neshat. Neshat’s work in photography and video and sound installations examines issues of identity and gender in Iranian society.

Four artists investigate states of flux and organic forms through sculpture and painting in an exhibition opening at Cheryl Hazan Contemporary Art on Wednesday, April 4th. Participating artists include Stanley Casselman, Matt Devine, John Ensor Parker and Carolina Sardi.
